Captain & Crew

Capt Allen Gonzalez is the Owner and Captain Reel Class and holds a 6-pack/OUPV license from the United States Coast Guard.

Capt Allen GanzalazCapt. Allen has been fishing the Jersey Shore in and around the Point Pleasant area and to the south for over 25 years. He started out fishing for snappers and flounders with his dad, grandfather, and uncle on the docks in Seaside Heights, Point Pleasant Beach, and the Point Pleasant Canal in the late 1970's, and started fishing party boats in the early 80's.

By the time he was in high school in the early 90's, Capt Allen started running his family's 21’ Dixie walk around after they had 2 smaller boats; and she was named “Susie-G III” after his mother Susan. Capt Allen spent most of the early 90's taking the boat out by himself, learning Barnegat Bay, Manasquan River, and the ocean around Manasquan Inlet with a LORAN and a simple depth finder. In that time span, he became a light tackle fanatic fishing for fluke, winter flounder, stripers, bluefish, bonito, albacore, and weakfish.

The first Reel Class (26' Seaswirl Striper WA) was purchased in 2000 a year or so after he graduated college, and roughly the same amount of time he landed his first teaching position. At the urging of his fiancee Eileen (now wife), mother, and father, he obtained his OUPV/6-Pack license in 2004 after many years of fishing, running boats, and daydreaming about being on the water entirely too much. At that time, he started doing Sportfishing Charters from Reel Class's home port of Point Pleasant, NJ. The second Reel Class, an Albemarle 305, was purchased in November of 2009. This boat had a great 5 year span and gave us more range and speed. Sharks, offshore bottom fishing, and mid-range tuna were brought into our game with this boat. The third Reel Class, purchased in November of 2014, is a 35' Henriques Sport Fishermen - this boat certainly ups our game even more with more room to fish and creature comfort for crew and guests. Hopefully it's fishing career (already well underway!) is as good as the seaswirl and Albemarle!

When you book a trip with Reel Class Sportfishing, or come along on an open boat trip, Capt Allen and his crew will treat their customers not only as clients on the boat, but as long-time fishing buddies who can have a great, memorable day on the water in a relaxing environment. The crew will make everyone feel at home, and patrons are invited to talk to the captain and crew and ask questions, and let the crew know how your day is going. The customer is always the focus, and Capt Allen and the crew will do whatever it takes for you to have a successful and enjoyable trip!

Captain Kenny Kaufman

Kenny has been fishing the waters of New Jersey ever since he could hold a rod in his hand. Having the opportunity to fish alongside his grandpa and father he gained a lot of knowledge in his early years. Around the age of 13 Kenny started working on a few different party/charter boats in the local area; gaining valuable knowledge and hands on experience. Every chance he gets he is always willing to learn more about the sport itself everything that comes along with it. In June of 2011, Kenny passed his OUPV/6-Pack Test by the US Coast Guard and is now a licensed Captain. Kenny has been with Reel Class Sportfishing since 2008, and will make your day enjoyable and productive!
Michael Guarino: Deckhand
Michael has been fishing the Jersey Shore most of his life and is certainly a "sharpie" when it comes to inshore fishing. He has caught everything from winter flounder to big striped bass, as well as cod, speedsters and small tunas. He has a love for fishing, boats, and everything involving saltwater fishing, and is now an integral part in all aspects of Reel Class Sportfishing. His first love is bottom fishing, in particular catching blackfish, however he has an unparalleled passion for simply catching as many fish as he possibly can with the time that he has! On the boat, that same mindset applies: Michael is energetic, fun, and upbeat, and will make anyone's day
on Reel Class productive and memorable!
Captain Joe "The General" Paton
Joe has been around the bays and ocean since before he could walk. He held his first crab before his 1st birthday. Most of his experience before working on the boats came from back bay fishing. Unfortunately, he did not have many opportunities to get out in the ocean. When he was fifteen he started working on a Point Pleasant Beach party boat where he gained a lot of experience over the last 5 years. Joe has also spent some time on commercial boats and Reel Class is the first charter boat he has worked on. In May of 2015 Joe plans on earning his 100 ton captains license.
Captain Eric Clark
Eric has been fishing the NJ waters since his Uncle gave him his first fishing rod at the age of 5. Fishing is a true passion for Eric, chasing fish from his boat, kayak, or from the shore all year round. He has worked as a mate for other area charter boats, gaining experience in both inshore and offshore fishing. A few years ago, Eric also earned his USCG certified Captain's License. As a mate, his goal has always been to help make your trip fun, safe, and enjoyable. He is an advocate of conservation and responsible fishing practices. He hopes to see our NJ fisheries continue to thrive for many generations to come and enjoys working with novice anglers to educate them on these practices.
A graduate of the College of New Jersey, Eric is a music teacher in the Little Silver school district and presently resides in Asbury Park. Away from fishing, he enjoys performing music with his band at many local hotspots, swimming, surfing, skiing, Yankees baseball and spending time with his family and friends.
